Housewarming parties are a perfect opportunity to show your warmth and thoughtfulness by bringing a gift that celebrates the beginning of a new chapter in someone's life. Whether it's for a friend, family member, or colleague, here is What to put in a Housewarming gift basket:
1. The basket that ties all together: Choose a wicker basket that looks very aesthetic or a foldable/multi-use basket that can be used even after the gifts are removed. I personally use storage boxes as baskets, so that they can be used for other purposes to store items around the house. Other options could include picnic baskets, baskets to place plants, blanket baskets etc.
2. Cleaning products: When moving into a new home or apartment, one goes through a lot of cleaning products, and it never hurts to have more of it. Disinfecting wipes, dish soap, sponges, dish cloths, are good examples of what can be added. If the receiver has pets, opt for pet and child-friendly products and fragrances that are not too strong.
3. Cooking products: Simple and standard kitchen items such as aprons, spatula and spoon sets are also a good idea to add to your gift basket. If the new homeowner does not cook, you could give microwaveable cutlery and crockery such as bowls, plates, spoons etc.
4. Home fragrances: Everybody wants their home to smell nice and what better way to do that than air fresheners, scented candles, reed diffusers, incense sticks etc. Add in a box of these fragrances to let their home smell nice.
5. Something to eat: Moving can be very hectic and some food items are always nice to add to the basket. You could add chips and snacks for something salty, easy-to-cook or readymade soups, popcorn etc, bread, spreads and dips, chocolates for something sweet etc.
6. Something to drink: I always prefer to add a bottle of wine or non-alcoholic champagne to my baskets. It adds a touch of elegance, and it is always nice to have a bottle to celebrate new beginnings.
7. Home décor: I am personally not a huge fan of gifting home décor, especially if I am not aware of the kind of home aesthetic they are going for. However, certain standard products can always be added such as neutral colour bedding, coasters, table mats, shower curtains etc.
8. Gift cards: very underrated but hugely appreciated are gift cards. These could include, supermarkets, coffee shops, and home organization stores such as Home Centre and IKEA. If you don’t have the physical card, you can always print it out, write down the e-gift card number behind it and add it to your basket. That gives them the freedom to shop for items that are more relevant to them and their new home.
9. A personal note: Always bring the basket together by adding a personal note congratulating them on their new home.
When choosing a housewarming gift, consider the recipient's preferences and the style of their new home. Opt for items that are practical, thoughtful, and add a touch of warmth to their space. It's the sentiment behind the gift that truly makes it special and memorable as they embark on this exciting journey in their new home.
