Hey everyone! Today's blog is a bit of a behind-the-scenes. Basically to tell you what according to me are the tech essentials for a new content creator.
Now before I begin, I do want to say, that while having the ideal camera equipment and lighting is important for content on socials, it is not an absolute neither am I a content expert to be giving advice to you.
Having said that, I simply want to list down my favorites when it comes to making content for my socials, both in terms of filming equipment, editing gadgets and my favorite video or content editing apps.
I also want to let you know in advance, that I am a huge Apple fan and most of my gadgets are centered around the brand.
You can find all the products listed here on my Amazon Wishlist.
iPad Air 2022 (5th Generation)
While I really enjoy the convenience of editing my content in my phone, it is a very different feeling to be able to edit them on a bigger screen with the freedom of a touch screen.
I have never really understood why people even want to use tablets, but when I began making content, from calendars to planning to editing, it became a great tool for organization.
Apple Pencil (2nd Generation)
It is actually a funny story that I bought the pencil first, only to realize it is not compatible with my existing iPad, that led me to upgrading to an iPad Air 5.
While people may talk about pros and cons and whether you need one of these, just content creation become not just easier but more fun while working with the pencil and the Air.
Softbox Lighting Kit
A new addition to my filming kit are these studio lights, as I like to call them.
They come with 150W bulbs, one in each and a white soft cloth.
The stand goes up to a height of 200cm, which is very ideal for me.
The only drawback is that I cannot control the brightness or the colors of the lights, but as of now, I am not complaining.
Phone tripod stand
This tripod stand extends upto 170cm (more than my height) and is ideal for filming top shots with my phone. All of my content is shot using this stand and the quality is excellent.
It also comes with a detachable connector where you can change from connecting a phone to even connecting a go pro or a digital camera.
Gimbal phone stabilizer
Although I dont use this a lot, considering most of my content is self shot and I need fixed frames, this is excellent when taking moving shots and you need stable hands. It is not very advanced but it does a decent job when it comes to shooting content with your phone.
Mini 5000mAh Power bank
Now, there are multiple, very convenient power banks in the market but they are either too bulky or too many wires or dont charge fast enough or cannot be used on tripods while charging.
This is one I found that solves all my above problems. While I avoid situations where I film with low battery, it always helps to have a power bank that I can use while I continue to film.
Silicone Pencil Nib Protector
One of the first accessories I ordered with the pencil is this nib protector. However, Now I use it even when I am writing because I dont like the tip-tapping sound of the pencil directly on my screen.
iPad and Pencil case
This iPad case is made of PU material with shock-proof corners. I also has a section to store your pencil, while charging which is a great added feature.
Tempered Screen Protector
Although I bought a cover for my iPad, and I have Apple coverage, I still feel more confident using my iPad when there is a screen protector. This one comes in a set of 2 and includes all the tools you would need to apply the protector on your gadget from the comfort of your home.
Favorite apps
InShot
My go-to content editing app has to be InShot. I have been using it for many years now and by just watching multiple ads, you can unlock the full version, including all of their fonts.
With multiple editing features and free music you could insert into the video along with importing recorded audio, this has to be a top favorite.
Apple Voice
Another app I use a lot is the Voice app. It is a very simple to use app but all of my narrations and voiceovers for my content is done using this app.
I own an iPhone 12 Pro Max but most iPhone, even older versions do a pretty good job in picking up sound which is quite clear. The trick is to be in a well padded room without and background noise (including fans or AC)
Canva
Obviously, by now most of you might be aware of Canva already. Not just for editing, I use this heavily for content as well. At a very nominal fee you could unlock Canva Pro and you would not need any other software to create wallpapers, cover images, basic editing of videos etc. I use these to create reel covers, for my business cards, invites for events and everything around. You can use it on your desktop or use the simpler version in your phone.
GoodNotes 5
Probably one of my favorite when it comes to creating my content calendar and where I write all my stories and captions. In the free version, you can have a maximum of 3 notebooks but with a minimal 1 time payment, you can unlock the full version.
